A major update will be done on the Metropolia remote desktop service (desktop.metropolia.fi / securedesktop.metropolia.fi) on week 8. The update begins on Tuesday, February 21 at 9:00am and ends on Thursday, February 23 at 4:00pm. The system will be unavailable during the update process.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to instruction.

Staff members who use the service on their home computers must update Horizon Client to the latest version. The software can be found at https://securedesktop.metropolia.fi. (The right version for Windows machines is VMware Horizon Client for Windows.)

The software will be updated automatically on Metropolia computers.

F-Secure Client Security which is installed on Metropolia computers warns today February 14 about a malware on some computers. The malware is identified by the names

This is not a malware, however, but a false alarm. The message gives no reason to action.

Metropolia IT services will be down for maintenance during the weekend February 4 - February 5, 2017 which will cause service outages as explained below. In addition to outages, the services are going to work slower during the weekend.

On Sunday, February 5, 2017, the web single-sign-on system will be updated. This will case disruptions in logging in to Google cloud services, Tuubi, Peppi, Pakki, Oma and Moodle. A new login page will be deployed in the update.

Microsoft Forms is a browser based survey program that Microsoft added into the Office 365 Education application collection in June 2016.

OMA is being updated at 4 - 5 pm. There may be some service breaks in OMA at 4 - 5 pm.

We recommend that services should not be used during the update.

IT Services

Metropolia’s central storage system will be down for maintenance on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 starting at 4pm.

The maintenance involves several approx. 5 minute long outages in the network drive service. (This applies to all network drives including home drives, common network drives, and the Tuubi document storage). The maintenance work lasts approx. 4-6 hours.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the outages. After the maintenance, the network drive usages should show again correctly on workstations.

Only necessary repairs will be done on Tuubi. The services of among others Tuubi  will gradually be replaced by OMA. Try it!

IT Services

Google Sites is a simple web site builder. It's based on the application titled Jotspot that Google bought in 2006.

You may build the site by using Google's templates or creating different elements (tabs, content area)  and defining attributes for them.  

In 2016, Google introduced a complete rebuild of Google Sites which is still in progress.

Cloud services used by Metropolia students and staff

Tuubi workspaces will be transferred automatically to OMA on March 3-6, 2017. On those days, workspaces will be in read-only mode. Workspaces will be deployed in OMA on March 6.

Outdated workspaces (marked to be outdated on January 1, 2010 or earlier) will be erased in OMA on April 28, 2017, unless the maintainer of the workspace marks them as "Keep" by April 27. The "Keep" button will be released in workspaces before the end of April.

IT Services

Phishing is criminal activity using IT resources. Phishing is the attempt to steal confidential information such as ID and account information by impersonating a trustworthy person or company.

Most phishing email messages received by Metropolia users are made to appear as password queries sent by Metropolia IT Services and relating to a system change.

Metropolia IT Services (Systems Maintenance, Data Management and System Development, User Support, Webmaster, etc.) never ask their users for passwords or other such information - neither by email nor otherwise.

Email messages requesting confidential information must be deleted immediately. The links in them should not be clicked and attachments should not be opened.

There are breaks on network drives on Friday December 2, 2016 due to repairing the network drive system.

There is a problem on Network Drive System

Some of student and staff can´t reach their private network drive Z: due to a problem on the network drive system.

The problem is currently solved by vendor.

Metropolia is selling used computers and peripherals. Price is determined by brand, model and level of operability.
