Does the mobile phone subscription work abroad?
Applies to staff
This answer applies to Metropolia staff, not students.
No, it does not work. Your your supervisor needs to submit a service request to change your subscription type for the duration of your business trip. Your unit is responsible for the phone bill.
If your trip is outside the EU, the phone bill can easily become very expensive. We recommend getting a local prepaid subscription. It is advisable to check their availability before your trip, and often it is possible to order them in advance by mail. eSIMs for international travel are sold by, for example, https://www.airalo.com/fi/.
You can also consider using wireless networks in hotels or host organizations with your phone, but always use a VPN connection for security purposes.
When someone travels abroad, always follow the guidelines on the IT instructions for traveling abroad page.
