Redirecting messages using the Outlook Web

Using Inbox rules, you can automatically forward or redirect emails sent to your mailbox to another account.

Creating a rule is not possible in the Light Version of Outlook Web App. Ensure that the Light Version option is not selected in the login window.

For step-by-step instructions with images, click here.

How to Automatically Redirect All Messages to Another Account

  1. Sign in to your account and go to Settings menu (gear icon in top right corner).
  2. Select Options.
  3. Select Mail and then Inbox and sweep Rules.
  4. On the Inbox and sweep Rules tab, choose New.
  5. Set up the rule: under When the message arrives, select Apply to all messages.
  6. Under Do the following, choose Redirect the message to.
  7. Select the address to which you want to send your messages by double-clicking it in the Address Book view. If the address is not listed, you can type it into the To field.
  8. Save your selection by clicking OK and return to the New Rule window.
  9. Save the rule by clicking Save and return to the Inbox Rules tab.

Good to Know

Redirecting and forwarding messages are not the same:

  • Redirected messages appear to come from the original sender. When replying to a redirected message, your reply goes to the original sender.
  • Forwarded messages appear to come from your address. When replying to a forwarded message, your reply goes to the address that forwarded the message, not to the original sender.

Copies of redirected and forwarded messages remain in your Inbox.

Did You Encounter a Problem?

  1. Restart your computer and the device where the issue is occurring. Try the function again.
  2. If the function you are attempting is happening in a web browser, try the function again in an incognito or private window and in a different browser.
  3. Try searching for a solution on the site of the IT Services by using the following search methods:
    1. navigation menu of the site (on the left)
    2. search machine of the wiki (right upper corner)
    3. a general search engine, for instance Google Search
    4. alphabetical index
    5. FAQ

If the problem is not resolved, please contact the helpdesk according to best practices. Always include a full screen screenshot of the issue in your service request.
