Monitoring Workstation Usage


Monitoring of workstation usage at Metropolia began in 2012 with the aim of providing real-time reservation status and long-term usage data. A privacy statement has been prepared for the monitoring process. See examples below.

Real-Time Reservation Status

Real-time reservation status helps students find available workstations and is also accessible via mobile devices.

Long-Term Usage Data

Long-term usage data helps identify workstations with low usage and investigate the reasons, such as hardware or software issues, poor placement, or access restrictions.

Long-term usage data is used to locate workstations with low usage and understand the underlying reasons.

Possible reasons include:

  • For an individual workstation, issues may stem from hardware or software malfunctions or poor placement within the classroom.
  • Low usage of classrooms may be due to inappropriate software, access restrictions, or the room being locked outside of class hours.

Long-term usage data also assists in assessing the need to upgrade hardware.

Examples of Usage Data Monitoring

  • Real-time workstation reservation status: Computers available to students in Myllypuro
  • Real-time room reservation status: Spaces available to students in Myllypuro
  • Report since the beginning of the year: Usage hours and frequency of Myllypuro workstations from 7.1 to 17.5.2019


Equivalent data is available for all workstations in general use across all locations. See Workstation Monitoring Reports by Location.

    4. alphabetical index
    5. FAQ
