Changes to Student Printing in Summer 2014

There will be changes in printing points in the summer. Some printing points will be replaced by multifunction printers and some will be closed.

On all campuses at least one printing point will be reserved for student use where free printing on the user's own printing paper is possible.

Due to updating multifunction devices will be periodically unavailable on Tue, 20th May.

Flash Player works again in Internet Explorer

The vulnerability found in Internet Explorer browser is now fixed and Flash Player works again in Internet Explorer.

If there are any problems, re-login or restart the workstation. After that the browser works again.

A five minutes break in the use of Tube 12.00–12.05 

The Tube–Peppi connection is re-estabilshed.

Peppi is updated on Friday 2nd May 2014 from 9:00 to 9:30 am

Peppi is updated to version 1.0.1.9 on Friday 2nd May 2014 from 9:00 am to 9:30 am.

There will be short outages on Peppi during updating.

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer browser allowing Flash media exploitation.

No fix to the vulnerability has been published yet.

Another vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player plugin allowing remote control of the victim's workstation.

Metropolia IT Services runs on all workstations a centralized fix that blocks the opening of Flash content in Internet Explorer.

Flash works as normal in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari browsers.

IT Service has collected feedback from the service request system's solution message links beginning on February 20, 2014.

The feedback is completely anonymous and is not linked to service requests or the person giving feedback.

The form contains five questions asking you to rate the services on a scale of 1 through 5. Rating is not required, though. There is also space for free feedback at the end of the form.

Commendations given in free feedback will be forwarded to the named persons individually.

We at IT Services extend our thanks for the feedback we have received and hope to receive more in the future. The link can be found in the solution messages.

Feedback is reviewed regularly, customer ratings will be published and feedback will be commented on the IT Services website when needed.

Phishing email warning!

Phishing is a common experience for email users these days. Metropolia email users often receive requests for their network/email passwords, user IDs, and other private data. Some of these emails can be very convincing and appear to be from Metropolia ITS Staff.

However, you should know that ITS will never, ever request your password! Emails requesting your password or other personal data should simply be DELETED upon receipt.

Below is the newest message of phishing email received here at Metropolia and should be deleted upon receipt.

The vulnerability situation in Metropolia :

  • Metropolia´s main services, such as Tuubi, Peppi, Moodle, Wiki are not affected by the vulnerability
  • Services such as mcp.metropolia.fi, opintotoimisto.metropolia.fi, as well as individual projects services are affected.

The vulnerability was announced on 7 April and Metropolia services were updated by 13 April.

There is no evidence of abuse caused by the vulnerability, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.

Except from Metropolia´s few services, many widely used online services are also affected and we recommend changing your password.

Important:

  • For every service you should use a different password.
  • Metropolia usernames and passwords should not be used in any external services
