Signing Out of Remote Desktop

Remember to Sign Out of Remote Desktop

Do not close VMware Horizon Client window or the browser tab when the remote desktop is still open. Sign Out of the remote desktop first as explained below.

After you have signed out of the remote desktop, you must wait a few minutes before being able to sign in again.

Signing out of a Windows 10 remote desktop

1. In the remote desktop, click on Start menu.

2. In Start menu, click on Sign out. Notice that the task bar is showing at the bottom of the picture (below) is your own computer's task bar. If it is not showing, the remote desktop is in fullscreen mode.

Signing out using the client's Disconnect and Log Off command

When you use a remote desktop with VMware Horizon Client you can also sign out with its Disconnect and Log Off command. If you do so the system does not necessarily warn about unsaved work. You could lose the changes you have made.

  1. Open the Options menu in the remote desktop window. If the remote desktop fills the whole screen you can make the menu appear by moving the mouse cursor in the top center of the screen.
  2.  In the remote desktop window, click on the Options menu and then select Disconnect and Log off. (If you select Disconnect instead, it is the same as closing the window by clicking on the X.)
  3. Confirm logoff by clicking on OK.

Restarting the remote desktop (only persistent remote desktops)

A persistent remote desktop (virtual computer) can be restarted...

  1. ...by selecting Restart Desktop from the remote desktop menu or
  2. by right-clicking the the remote desktop icon and by selecting Restart Desktop.

After the restart, wait approximately one minute while the remote desktop is starting before the connection opens.

Problems?

  1. Restart your computer and the device where the issue is occurring. Try the function again.
  2. If the function you are attempting is happening in a web browser, try the function again in an incognito or private window and in a different browser.
  3. Try searching for a solution on the site of the IT Services by using the following search methods:
    1. navigation menu of the site (on the left)
    2. search machine of the wiki (right upper corner)
    3. a general search engine, for instance Google Search
    4. alphabetical index
    5. FAQ

If the problem is not resolved, please contact the helpdesk according to best practices. Always include a full screen screenshot of the issue in your service request.

Good to know

If you lose connection to the remote desktop e.g. because of a network failure, your session will continue running for some time. By signing back in to the remote desktop you can get back to the open session.
