Setting Up Email in Outlook Desktop Application

Installation

To set up an email account, you need to have Microsoft Outlook installed on your computer. Outlook is included in the Microsoft Office 365 software package.

For computers managed by Metropolia, Microsoft Office 365 is already pre-installed. If it's missing, do not install it yourself. Contact Helpdesk if necessary. For home computers, you can install Microsoft Office 365 by following the download and installation instructions.

When you start Outlook for the first time, you can add your Metropolia email account directly by following the instructions below (Email Account Setup).

If Outlook is Already Setup on Your Computer

If Outlook is already installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Go to the File menu.
  3. Select Add Account.
  4. Continue from the instructions below (Email Account Setup).

Email Account Setup

  1. Select Manual setup or additional server types.
  2. Click Next.



  3. Choose Microsoft365 as your account type.

  4. Enter your email address (firstname.lastname@metropolia.fi) in the Email Address field.
  5. Click Next.

  6. Select More choices.



  7. Select Use a different account.
  8. In the upper field, enter pk\username (Note! Your own username and the direction of the "backslash". Only your "short form" username, no @ symbol).

  9. Enter your password.

  10. Select Remember my credentials.

  11. Click OK.



  12. Click Finish.

Did you encounter a problem?

  1. Restart your computer and the device where the issue is occurring. Try the function again.
  2. If the function you are attempting is happening in a web browser, try the function again in an incognito or private window and in a different browser.
  3. Try searching for a solution on the site of the IT Services by using the following search methods:
    1. navigation menu of the site (on the left)
    2. search machine of the wiki (right upper corner)
    3. a general search engine, for instance Google Search
    4. alphabetical index
    5. FAQ

If the problem is not resolved, please contact the helpdesk according to best practices. Always include a full screen screenshot of the issue in your service request.
