Opening an Excel spreadsheet or Access database file containing macros on a Windows computer
Running macros in Excel or Access files downloaded from the internet is disabled for security reasons. However, it is possible to run macros when the file is opened from a trusted location.
Browsers typically save files to the user's Downloads folder, which is not a trusted location. When attempting to open a file from an untrusted location, a message with pink background text will appear indicating that macros have been disabled.
The trusted locations at Metropolia include:
- U network drive with its subfolders
- P network drive with its subfolders
- Personal network drive "Z" with its subfolders
- Documents folder with its subfolders located in the user's profile (C:\Users\username\Documents)
Move the file to a trusted location and open it from there.
