AV Equipment in New Spaces
Basic classrooms and meeting rooms
In most class rooms there is only an HDMI cable and adapters for laptops on the teacher's desk. Such classrooms are called basic classrooms. Basic classrooms do not have an control pane or a remote control for the AV equipment. They are not needed because the projector or display turns on automatically when the cable is connected to laptop.
1. Connect your the HDMI cable to your laptop. Use the adapters that are tied to the cable if the cable cannot be connected the laptop directly.
2. The projector or display turns on automatically.
3. When you end the presentation disconnect the HDMI cable from your device. The projector or display turns off automatically after a while.
Where is freeze, mute, and zoom?
Older spaces have remote controls with freeze, mute, and zoom buttons.
In newer spaces there are not remote controls but you can find the same features in you laptop:
- If you want to show one picture on your laptop screen and a different one on the projector, switch your laptop top Extended mode by pressing the Windows button and the P button at the same time, and select Extended. Your laptop screen and the projector will then show different pictures, and you can work on your laptop while displaying the students e.g. exercises. This corresponds to the freeze button in older remote controls.
- If you want to turn the projector picture blank, disconnect the HDMI cable from your laptop. This simple procedure corresponds to mute.
- There are three alternatives to zooming in:
- Zoom in to the picture during a PowerPoint presentation by pressing the CTRL and the plus (+) key combination on the keyboard. Zoom out by pressing the CTRL and the minus (-) key combination.
- Right-click on the mouse and select "Zoom in".
- Use the slide control in PowerPoint.
A class room equipped with a control panel (big classrooms and PC classrooms)
In addition to the HDMI cable, some classrooms are equipped with a control panel for controlling the AV features.
1. Connect the HDMI cable to your laptop. Use the adapters that are tied to the cable if the cable cannot be connected the laptop directly.
2. Tap on Start on the control panel. The projector (or display) turns on automatically, and the computer picture is shown on the projector (or display).
3. When your finished end the session by tapping on Shutdown.
Freeze and mute
The control panel has Freeze button. Tap it to freeze the picture. With Mute you can turn the projector picture blank.
Spaces with space dividers
The campuses have a plenty of spaces with space dividers. The AV equipment in these rooms can be used together or separately. These rooms have control panels in both ends.
Primary or secondary?
- The space with the smaller space code number is always the primary one.
- If you have reserved both spaces for your event, we recommend that you stream from the primary space's teacher's desk. From there you can present to both spaces' projectors/displays at the same time.
- The space with the bigger space code number is the secondary one. If the primary space's presentation is shown in the secondary space, you can still start a separate presentation on the secondary space's projector/display. The primary space's presentation is replaced by the new presentation on the secondary space's projector/display.
- A presentation cannot be sent from the secondary space to the primary space.
Autonomous displays for team work etc.
Many spaces are equipped with presentation displays that are meant for team working and students' presentations. The displays can be traditional displays or touch displays.
1. Connect the HDMI cable to your laptop. Use the adapters that are tied to the cable if the cable cannot be connected the laptop directly.
2. If the display is a touch display, connect the display's USB cable to your laptop.
3. The display turns on automatically.
4. When you end the presentation disconnect the HDMI cable (and the USB cable) from your device. The display turns off automatically after a while.
