Due to a blackout caused by last weekends storm almost all services have been down today.
Most of the services are already operational as we continue to check the systems.
The blackout did not cause dataloss on the servers.
The Tube-portal not in use on Wednesday Jan 4th.
We are transferring the Tube-portal to more powerful servers. No other changes are made to the portal at this time.
The maintenance break will last the whole day.
Beginning on January 1, 2012, staff printing, copying and scanning on Toshiba multifunction printers will require identification. Identification will be done using a Metropolia ID card. Department codes and passwords will no longer be used. These changes will enchance information security and reliability.
If you do not have an ID card, please contact security manager Ari Hyvönen. The library can issue you a temporary ID card which will be linked to your Metropolia user ID. The library can issue a temporary ID card also to part time instructors and partner organization's staff members. Printing, copying and scanning is personal. Accordingly, you are not allowed to use the porter's or other people's card.
The printers display the printing and copying fees because students will be charged but staff will not be charged. When printing, the print jobs will be directed to a virtual queue from which they can be printed to paper on a Toshiba at any Metropolia location. This feature can be used e.g. when moving from one location to another. You do not need to carry printouts with you.
All multifunction printers will be equipped with an ID card reader. All black and white multifunction printers will be replaced by color multifunction printers. The number of other printers will be gradually reduced during the Spring. At first, printers will be removed from classrooms. The only change in student printing will be in fees. The new contract will bring a small reduction in student printing fees. Staff can use all the printers that students use. In addition, there will be printers reserved for staff only.

Windows 7 and Office 2010 service Pack1 security updates begin on staff computers
in Leiritie 1 according to following schedule.
Office 2010 SP1, all staff computers beginning at December 20 at 21:30 PM.
Windows 7 SP1, all staff computers beginning at December 21 at 21:30 PM.
Computers will restart after the updates but you will be notified 5 minutes in advance.
Save all documents then.
The use of Toshiba multifunction devices will expand and change in the beginning of January.
Staff will be able to use their Metropolia ID card for idenfication at the defice. Student printing
will not change.
More details about changes and printing in partner organization will be announced next week.
The number of classroom printers will be reduced in the Spring in all locations.
The new multifunction device agreement will bring a small reduction in students' copy and
printing fees.
There may be short outages in multifunction device services during the week after Christmas.
There is a tuubi update 13th December starting at 4 pm.
System will be offline about 15 minutes.
The problem is fixed and wireless network is working again.
Homepages have been transferred to a new system. Because of this, new homepages added to your home directory under public_html are not automatically visible to the world. When trying to open the page the user receives the error message HTTP 403 "Forbidden".
For the time being, you must give the user Everyone read permission to files that you have added under public_html.
We are working on restoring the functionality of the homepage directory.

The sale will take place on Thursday 15th of December from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at classroom P-113 in the Pääkoulu building.
The computers will be sold mainly in packages containing a PC, a flat screen monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. Also included is a Windows OEM license without an installation media
The makes and models may vary and the pricing varies accordingly. There are also PCs available that are not fully functional e.g. due to lack of hard drive.
Only cash payment will be accepted. The sales items can’t be reserved beforehand. Limit one per customer.

Due to updates in IT communications infrastructure, there will be short interruptions
in IT services as outlined in the schedule below. The breaks in the most heavily used
services will be kept as short as possible and they will be scheduled on Sunday.
The updates enhance the usability of the infrastructure which will also stabilize the
functioning of the Tuubi portal.
