Home directories will be migrated to new disk array during weekend 3rd to 4th December.
Transfer starts saturday evening at 18 pm and will last until sunday evening.
Following services are not available during migration:
- Z:-drive in workstations and home directory in Tuubi
- shell-servers shell.metropolia.fi and edunix.metropolia.fi
- personal web pages at http://users.metropolia.fi
- S:-drive in workstations
There will be service breaks also with user account administration systems
http://amme.metropolia.fi and http://activation.metropolia.fi.
Path of Linux home directories will be changed during migration which should
be taken care of in own scripts.
Windows 7 and Office 2010 Service Pack1 security updates begin on staff computers on Monday, November 11, 2011.
The installations begin in Vanha maantie 6 and Vanha viertotie 23 beginning at 20:30 PM. The updates are installed one location, floor, or wing at a time.
Computers will restart after the updates but you will be notified 5 minutes in advance. Save all open documents then. Save your open documents also when leaving the workstation.

During last weekend, password lists have been published in the Internet. The passwords may be connected
to the e-mail addresses published the previous week. So far the passwords have not been linked to any
web services, user IDs or e-mail addresses.
The published e-mail addresses have presumably been harvested from discussion forums' or other web
services' registration data. Most likely they originate from such web services that ask for the user's
e-mail address during registration. If the e-mail password was disclosed, the address can be used for
digging out other web service user IDs.

Metropolia servers and services will be periodically unavailable on the weekend of 5 - 6.11. as the backupsystem of virtual enviroment is replaced and virtual computers are transferred to a new drivesystem.
All service breaks will occur without notice and may last as long as two hours for services such as Tuubi.
Logging in to workstations, email, wiki, homedirectory and network drives work normally.
Phishing is a common experience for email users these days. Metropolia email users often receive requests for their network/email passwords, user IDs, and other private data. Some of these emails can be very convincing and appear to be from Metropolia ITS Staff.
However, you should know that ITS will never, ever request your password! Emails requesting your password or other personal data should simply be DELETED upon receipt.
Below are newest messages of phishing emails received here at Metropolia and should be deleted upon receipt.
