Stabilizing the Tube and the next version

Proposals by students and staff on improving the Tube have been prepared and will be thoroughly tested. The changes to ease the use of Tube will be released with the new version after the turn of the year. Flaws in the current version will then also be rectified.

Tube has suffered from instability throughout the fall term. Our vendor Eduix together with IT Services has been investigating causes for the instability.

Prior to implementing the new version measures to stabilize the Tube are taken, namely

  •  IT Services substantially upgrades the capacity of the computer servers. Also the environment is streamlined
  • IT Services updates and reorganizes the network infrastructure during the fall

The new version of the Tube will not be taken into use before these changes have been implemented. We will inform about the new version at a later stage.

Classroom color printers will be removed

Toshiba multifunction devices will be used for color printing.

IT Services has developed student printing services by deploying Toshiba

multifunction devices in classrooms and libraries in order to replace color

printers. To print to Toshiba a personal copy card is needed.

Color printers in shared use will be removed from classrooms and

libraries beginning on 19th October, 2011. Instructions for using Toshiba

multifunction devices can be found by the devices in all Metropolia

locations and in the IT Services website. There you can find also

information about where Toshiba devices are placed in Metropolia

buildings and the printing and copying fee chart.

Toshiba multifunction devices

  • you will not need to bring paper, printing will be charged by the sheet
  • print jobs will be directed to the user´s personal printing queue and
the user can print the jobs using his or her copy card
  • you can use choose between A3 and A4 size, color and B&W printing

If you have problems with printing, please do not hesitate to contact us by

making a service request at http://hd.metropolia.fi, send email to helpdesk@metropolia.fi

or call number 020 783 6969.

During the outages Metropolia services cannot be accessed from outside, i.e. internet (e.g. home computer). On Metropolia workstations (in the internal network) can't be used internet, but Metropolia's IT services can be used normally.

The reason for the outages is an improvement in the telecommunications infrastructure which aims at guaranteeing the usability of IT services by enhancing its reliability. The second phase of the improvement will be carried out in December and the the announcement will be made closer to the date.

There will be a maintenance break in Moodle on tuesday October 11th at 9 pm. The break will take about one hour. There is question about data security updating.
