Print rooms in Albertinkatu, Kalevankatu and Eerikinkatu

Printers in classrooms are replaced by separate print rooms from 10th October 2012 onwards in Albertinkatu, Kalevankatu and Eerikinkatu. Printing is fee but paper is needed. Print rooms are located at

Toshiba multifunction printing continues to be a fee based service for students. Toshiba multifunction printers can print, copy and scan both black & white and color. Printing and copying is fee based but scanning is fee.

Power outage in the server room beginning on 6 PM. During the outage, most of Metropolia network services such as E-mail, Moodle and Tuubi are not available. The break will last approximately 4 hours.

Power outage in the old wing beginning on 5 PM. Staff located in the old wing are adviced to leave the wing or move to the new wing which is not affected by the outage. This power outage does not affect Metropolia network services.

Toshiba multifunction devices are not available on Wednesday, 3th October at 2.00 pm about 15-30 minutes due to maintenance work.

Intermittent printing problems

In the fall, a printing problem was found to occur intermittently when printing from various applications such as Office, Adobe, and Winha.

The computer freezes after a printing attempt and applications stop responding. Delays of several minutes occur.

The problem has occurred in all Metropolia locations. It is being investigated and effort is taken to determine the cause.

Metropolia IT acquisitions

Metropolia has tendered contract suppliers to be retained in all essential IT product acquisitions. IT Services is responsible for the acquisitions, installation and maintenance.

Regardless of the underwriter an acquisition request has to be made at http://hd.metropolia.fi

Independently acquiring products covered by the contract can be considered a breach of contract that, in worst case, may lead to juridicial acts. In such cases the responsibility always lies with the individual who ordered the product in question.

Alternate suppliers may be discussed with the Data Administration acquisitions team as necessary.

A Tube break at 7.00 a.m. Thursday 20.9.

We will update the Tube starting 7.00 a.m. on Thursday morning. The expected length is less than an hour.

The changes implemented are:

1. On the front page of every workspace a listing of the latest changes in this workpace will be displayed. This feature replaces the change-indicators on the tabs.

2. The three firts tabs of  A toteutuksen workspace marked 'Open'  will be readable to anyone signed in to the Tube.

3. The rector's important announcements will stand out.

Metropolia sent email delivery error

Metropolia email has been used for a spamming purposes by using leaked password from user. Sent email may return to user because of blacklisted Metropolia email.

Problem has been fixed at friday 14th September, 2012 when this happened and normally it takes about from 3 to 7 days to get away from blacklist.

Phishing is a common experience for email users these days. Metropolia email users often receive requests for their network/email passwords, user IDs, and other private data. Some of these emails can be very convincing and appear to be from Metropolia ITS Staff.

However, you should know that ITS will never, ever request your password! Emails requesting your password or other personal data should simply be DELETED upon receipt.

Below are newest messages of phishing emails received here at Metropolia and should be deleted upon receipt.

The user management system Amme and user Activation system will be unavailable all-day on Fri  21st of September due the HR-system updating.

During this time http://amme.metropolia.fi and  http://activation.metropolia.fi will be unavailable.

Toshiba multifunction devices are not available on Wednesday 12th September, 2012 from 11 am to 12 noon due to maintenance work.

The supplier will make an urgent update to the disk systems starting from noon on Wednesday 12.9.

During the updating shared network drives (S-,T-,U-,W- and Z-drives) will be periodically unavailable.

Firefox-browser updates start on 10.9.

Starting from 10.9. IT Services will begin updating Firefox-browsers. Browsers will be updated to versions v15 and 10.0.7 ESR.

Updates will bring older versions up-to-date and patch security vulnerabitlities.

During updating Firefox-browser will be shutdown automatically if the user is not logged on. Otherwise updating will be attempted on a later date. Remember to log out while leaving your workstation for a longer period of time to ensure the browser update.
