Spam messages from SkillPages have appeared in Metropolia emails, which originate from our own colleagues.
If you receive an email from SkillPages, delete it immediately!

The outage was caused by the configuration of firewall. Due to the configuration logging on to many services was impossible. For example single sign-on-service, hd and IT Services were unavailable.

Phishing is a common experience for email users these days. Metropolia email users often receive requests for their network/email passwords, user IDs, and other private data. Some of these emails can be very convincing and appear to be from Metropolia ITS Staff.
However, you should know that ITS will never, ever request your password! Emails requesting your password or other personal data should simply be DELETED upon receipt.
Below are newest message of phishing emails received here at Metropolia and should be deleted upon receipt.

A network interface card driver error caused Tuubi's service break last weekend.
Staff and students have now a chance to express their opinions about multifunction devices in an open discussion forum. Here you can tell about both negative and positive experiences you have had with the working of the devices. Development ideas are also welcome! Your feedback helps us develop the functioning of the devices in a more user friendly direction.
Two new printing queues will be added in addition to the current one on the multifunction printers during week 46/2012. You can test the new queues the rest of the year.

Most print jobs need only double-sided black and white prints. Changing the setting from double-sided to single-sided is easy.
Double-sided printing results in cuts in paper and energy consumption, and it also brings more reliability to printing.
Network and local printers will remain as they are.
Follow this to the instructions .
Metropolia Microsoft Office default settings will change during week 44:
The default font will be Arial
- Font size in Word and Excel will be 11pt
- In PowerPoint and OneNote font size varies
- Outlook font size will be 10pt
Some changes in Word template margins
- left margin will be 2 cm
- upper and lower margins as well and the right margin will be 1 cm
Word AutoFormat As You Type settings will change
- Hyphen after a space will no longer be replaced by em dash
- An em dash can be typed by typing two hyphens (minus signs) on end
Word template header will no longer have a center tab stop
Word comment balloons will no longer pop up
Outlook browser version default font will be Arial (in near future)
These changes will be done on all Windows workstations and laptops maintained by Metropolia IT Services when connected to the local area network (by cable). Changes on Mac computers will be announced later on.
If the settings are not changed after a bootup within a week, please inform Helpdesk by making a service request at http://hd.metropolia.fi, by calling the phone service at 020 783 5246, or by sending e-mail to helpdesk@metropolia.fi.

There will be short breaks in all IT services during weekend from 20th to 21st October, 2012 due to moving to the new virtualization system. Breaks will be very short and breaks of critical systems will be scheduled on Sunday.
