Workstations
IT services purchases both staff members and lecturers computers from Metropolia's contract supplier. Consequently each purchase must be implemented through the IT services. More information:
Desktops for teaching
General teaching facilities' computers have a life cycle of four years. This period is followed by a fifth and possibly a sixth year in laboratory use, where the performance factor is not as essential. These computers can reach up to a six year life cycle, maximising the use of the asset, thus reducing it's carbon footprint.
High-performance workstations can also be purchased for teaching purposes.
Staff desktops
The life cycle for staff member's computers is four years. Staff members have the option of choosing either a desktop or a laptop computer, but not both. All full-time staff members have been budgeted to a single desktop computer, but with the acceptance from their superior, a laptop can also be arranged. In these cases IT services compensates the amount of a new desktop, and the remainder is left for the cost pool of the superior.
Computers no longer in use and over four years old can be reclaimed by the user from Helpdesk.
Note: Because IT services budgets each staff member with a desktop computer, all additional expenses from components, batteries etc. must be covered by the staff members cost pool.
