Connect Laptop to Docking Station
Most Metropolia workstations are equipped with a universal docking station which connects to any laptop model with a USB connector. See Connect Laptop to Universal Docking Station (in Finnish).
Using a laptop with a docking station makes it easy to plug in the accessories such as mouse, keyboard, display, and fixed network. Accessories and network cable are connected directly to the docking station.
Docking stations are specific to laptop make. Often they are specific also to laptop model. In other words, an HP EliteBook series laptop cannot be docked to a Fujitsu-Siemens or a Dell docking station or to an HP docking station manufactured for an older laptop model.
- Turn off the laptop and or at leas log off the operating system.
- Disconnect all accessories from the laptop and connect them to the docking station.
- Look for a rectangular connector in the bottom of the laptop. In some models there could be a rubber protector covering the connector - detach it.
- Press the laptop gently down to the docking station so that the connector in the front of the docking station coincides with the connector on the laptop.
- Now you can power on the laptop using the laptop’s own power button (you may have to open the laptop lid first) or the power button on the docking station.
- Now your laptop can use the keyboard, the mouse, and other accessories connected to the docking station.
