Restricting PDF Printing and Editing

Restrict permissions by setting the document a password.


To protect a PDF document from printing and editing, set a password on the document.

If you are using Adobe Acrobat, it is recommended to save the PDF with a new name before applying protection. This way, the original editable document remains accessible in case the password is forgotten. You will have both an editable version and a version for distribution.

PDF-Xchange PDF-Tools includes this feature as part of its workflow.
