A remote instruction facility is a room where audio and video can be streamed and received via network using a video conferencing system (Zoom, Teams, Skype for Business, Adobe Connect, etc.). The equipment in the facilities is easy to use. By following the instructions anybody can use these facilities for video conferencing and streaming.

To use a remote instruction facility, connect the USB cable on the presentation desk (teacher's desk) to your laptop. A new audio device will be available on the laptop. Select the new device. You will find more instructions on selecting audio devices in the facility.

There are three main kinds of remote teaching facilities:

Rooms equipped with microphones for voice amplification in the room and a camera. The microphone sound and the camera picture are streamed into the meeting via USB. You will find precise instructions in the room.

1. Rooms suitable for remote or hybrid instruction - rooms with a conference phone and camera which can be used like any web camera.
   The saucer shaped microphone of the conference phone camera captures speech and directs it via USB bus to a meeting session. In the room, you can find detailed instructions on using the equipment. Because it is a conference phone its quality does not quite match that of a regular microphone but the conference phone captures a loud dialogue of 20 people and is thus suitable for remote instruction and small scale hybrid instruction and hybrid meetings. Notice that the conference microphone does not amplify voice in the room. Local speech is only captured and transmitted to remote participants. If you need voice amplification, you must choose a room equipped with regular wireless microphones. If a room with a conference phone is also equipped with wireless microphones the two must not be used together because that could result in a poor sound quality for remote participants.
2. Rooms suited for hybrid instruction - rooms with ceiling microphones. A ceiling microphone picks up voice audio from all directions. Also coughing, furniture noise, and other background noise is picked up. Notice that a ceiling microphone does not amplify speech locally. It only sends local audio to remote participants.
3. Rooms suitable for remote instruction - rooms equipped with wireless microphones meant for voice amplification and a camera.
   Sound captured by microphones and video captured by the camera is directed via USB bus to a meeting session. In the room, you can find detailed instructions on using the equipment. Because the microphones are for single user these rooms are suitable for remote instruction but in hybrid instruction you must pass a microphone in the room.

Pay attention to the following

• You should reserve 45 minutes more time for remote instruction preparations compared to local instruction preparations. This is because in remote events you must test the equipment and instruct remote participants and presenters and test their equipment as well.
• The conference microphone does not amplify voice in the room. It only sends the audio to remote participants. If you need sound amplification, please select a space equipped with a traditional microphone.
• In rooms equipped with removable walls the remote instruction system is in the main part of the room. If the divided parts of the room are being used for separate purposes at any time, only the main part of the room has the remote instruction system.
• All conference rooms and in the quite work spaces are equipped with a high-quality web camera and a good microphone to make remote instruction possible.
• In most lecture halls there is a network cable on the teacher's desk, marked with "Stream LAN". The cable provides your own computer a fixed network connection. Notice however that the connection does not give access to internal network services.
