Access badges
You can use the same or a different card for logging into multifunction devices and as an access badge. However, the card must be activated separately for multifunction devices and as an access badge.
Students: How to activate an access badge
You can move around the campuses once you have registered an access badge for yourself by following these instructions:
- Find a card in your wallet that is currently in use or has been deactivated and is equipped with a contactless RFID chip. Note: Do not use a bank card, credit card, other payment card, or an access card from another organization. At least the HSL travel card works well. It’s also worth trying various membership cards or gym cards. Note: Metropolia's front desk services do not currently provide cards suitable for access registration.
- Locate a self-service registration terminal for access cards on campus. If needed, ask the front desk for directions.
- Log in to the self-registration terminal using your Metropolia user credentials.
- Click the Register a new card button.
- Present the card you’ve chosen to the card reader located next to the self-registration terminal.
- Follow the instructions on the terminal to complete the process.
- If the registration of the card is unsuccessful, try another card. Not all cards have an RFID chip, and some may not be compatible with the access control system.
Do not present the card to the reader until the device prompts you to do so. Otherwise, the device may read the RFID code at the wrong time, and the process will need to be restarted.
Staff: How to activate an access badge
Staff should follow the above instructions intended for students in all other respects, but the access badge must be their own photo ID staff card. The photo ID card is ordered at the start of employment from Facility Services through a service request at https://hd.metropolia.fi. NOTE! Remember to select Facility Services from the homepage, not, for example, Helpdesk.
Removing an Access Card
- Log in to any self-registration terminal using your Metropolia username and password.
- Use the access card removal function on the device.
- The device will guide you through the necessary steps, and your card will be deactivated.
Please note that this does not remove your card from multifunction devices. Instructions for removing the card from multifunction devices can be found here.
