Privacy breach notification

Did you detect a personal data breach also known as a privacy breach ? Read these instructions on how to report it.

What is a personal data breach or privacy breach?

Personal Data Breach also known as in some contexts as Privacy Breach refers to an event in which personal data is destroyed, lost, altered, disclosed without authorization, or accessed by a party who does not have the right to process it. Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. A person can be identified either directly from the data or by combining different pieces of information.

Do you suspect a personal data breach has occurred?

If you suspect that you have detected a personal data breach, immediately report your suspicion to Metropolia’s Helpdesk and/or the Data Protection Officer (DPO).

  1. Go to Metropolia’s Helpdesk service request system and choose “Personal data breach notification”. This notification will also be forwarded to the Metropolia Data Protection Officer’s email inbox.
  2. Once the notification has been received, the Data Protection Officer will start processing the matter and will contact you if necessary to obtain additional information and provide guidance on the next steps. The DPO is responsible for submitting a notification to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman when required.
  3. You may contact Metropolia’s Data Protection Officer at any time and ask for assistance in identifying and reporting a personal data breach. More information is also available on the website of the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.

The purpose of the handling process is to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
