Zotero reference management program

The installation instructions in this section are intended only for personal computers, not for computers maintained by Metropolia. You install the programs on your own computer at your own risk and are responsible for their functionality as well as any effects on your device’s operation. On computers maintained by Metropolia, programs are installed via the Software Center or requested from the Helpdesk.


Zotero is a free reference management program that allows you to easily save, organize, and use sources when, for example, writing essays or theses. Zotero works both on your computer and in your browser, and it can automatically create bibliographies in various styles.

Did you encounter a problem?

  1. Restart your computer and the device where the issue is occurring. Try the function again.
  2. If the function you are attempting is happening in a web browser, try the function again in an incognito or private window and in a different browser.
  3. Try searching for a solution on the site of the IT Services by using the following search methods:
