Identify yourself before your studies begin so that you can access your user credentials before the orientation days. However, you can only complete identification after you have accepted your study place and have been registered in Metropolia’s student systems. Your right to study begins on 1 August or 1 January, and you can activate your user account as soon as your study right begins.

How to identify yourself without Suomi.fi authentication

To receive your Metropolia user credentials, you must verify your identity through the Candour ID service.

1. Go to https://identification.metropolia.fi/identification
2. Log in using the email address and phone number you used when applying to Metropolia (Opintopolku, Open UAS system, etc.).
3. Fill in the form, taking the following into account:

• If you did not provide a phone number in your application, leave the phone number field empty.
• Enter the information exactly in the same format as in your application (e.g., country code in the phone number).

For identification, you will need the following:

• A valid identity document, which can be one of the following:
  • Passport (with or without ICAO chip)
  • Finnish identity card with an ICAO chip
  • Foreign identity card with an ICAO chip
    Make sure your document is one of the above and has not expired.
• A mobile device with an NFC reader (if you are using an ICAO chip-enabled document), a working camera, and access to the App Store or Play Store to download the Candour ID app
• The latest version of the Candour ID app

Note:

• You must use your original, physical identity document when identifying yourself with the Candour ID app; a photo or copy of the document is not accepted.
• You must be recognizable from the photo on your identity document. Pay special attention to this if a long time has passed since the document was issued.

During identification, you must complete the following steps in the Candour ID app:

• Take a photo of your passport/identity card. You must use the original physical document; a copy or photo is not accepted.
• Read the passport/identity card information
• If you are using a passport or identity card with an ICAO chip: read the chip according to the app instructions
• If your passport does not have an ICAO chip: continue with optical identification (without chip reading) according to the app instructions
• If reading the chip fails: continue with optical identification (without chip reading) according to the app instructions
• Take a selfie

The app will verify that:

• the passport/identity card is valid
• the person in the selfie matches the photo in the passport/identity card

The Candour ID app will inform you whether identification was successful. Return to your browser and wait patiently until you are redirected to the identification service information page.

You have three attempts to complete identification successfully. If you encounter issues, the Candour ID app will provide additional guidance during the process. Use all three attempts if necessary. If identification is not successful after three attempts, you will be redirected back to the identification service, where you will find further instructions.

After successfully completing identification, you will receive your Metropolia user credentials and activation instructions by email within one week.
