What should I do if there is an issue with my mobile phone?

Applies to staff

This answer is for Metropolia staff, not for students.

If your mobile phone has any issues, it is often recommended to try the following steps first. After each step, check if the problem has been resolved before proceeding to the next step.

  1. Restart your phone.
    1. If the screen of your phone does not turn off, restart it by holding down the power button for approximately 30 seconds.
  2. Check and install the updates for your phone according to the instructions.
    1. Instructions for Android phones: Check & update your Android version - Android Help (google.com).
    2. Instructions for iPhone phones: Update your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Remove and reinsert the SIM card into your phone if the issue is related to the network connection.
  4. Reset your phone to factory settings following the instructions. NOTE: This will completely erase your phone. You are responsible for backing up your own data, photos, and files!
    1. Instructions for Android phones: Reset your Android device to factory settings (google.com).
    2. Instructions for iPhone phones: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings.

What should I do if my mobile phone is accidentally damaged?

If it is a device whose lifecycle has ended (e.g., laptops after 4 years and mobile phones after 3 years), the IT Services will cover the cost of a new device due to the end of its lifecycle.

If the device is younger, discuss the replacement of the device with your supervisor. IT Services does not reimburse for accidentally damaged devices. If your supervisor does not allow the reimbursement to be charged to your unit, it will be charged to you personally. Employees are responsible for the employer's devices in their possession.

Once you have agreed on the costs with your supervisor, submit a procurement request for a new device using the form or alternatively, submit a service request for device maintenance.

Did You Encounter a Problem?

  1. Restart your computer and the device where the issue is occurring. Try the function again.
  2. If the function you are attempting is happening in a web browser, try the function again in an incognito or private window and in a different browser.
  3. Try searching for a solution on the site of the IT Services by using the following search methods:
    1. navigation menu of the site (on the left)
    2. search machine of the wiki (right upper corner)
    3. a general search engine, for instance Google Search
    4. alphabetical index
    5. FAQ

If the problem is not resolved, please contact the helpdesk according to best practices. Always include a full screen screenshot of the issue in your service request.
