The presentation technology in the Karamalmi facilities will be updated in the summer of 2026
Renewal of AV equipment from May to September
The presentation technology in the learning spaces, i.e. AV equipment, at the Karamalmi campus will be updated from May to September. The dismantling of old equipment will begin in May. The installation of new equipment will continue at least until the end of August.
Use of spaces during dismantling and installation work
A familiar space may be unavailable for extended periods during the summer. Please explore the campus’s extensive range of spaces and make versatile use of the facilities.
What will change?
The equipment life cycle is 5–8 years, depending on the type. The summer installations are in line with this standard renewal cycle, focusing on the following areas:
- Projectors will be replaced with more powerful ones: current lamp-based models will be replaced by brighter, faster-starting laser projectors requiring less maintenance. In some spaces, a display will be replaced with a projector to achieve a larger image in the room.
- Additional presentation surfaces will be installed in spaces with challenging layouts to improve visibility.
- The general reliability of spaces will be improved. As equipment has aged, faults have increased. The system will now be migrated to point-to-point signal transmission, reducing network-based control. This will help to decrease the number of faults.
- Hybrid teaching and meeting technology will be added to the spaces to support more diverse use of the facilities.
- Touchscreen control panels will be replaced by physical buttons, as control panels have been a weak link in terms of operational reliability.
- Displays and meeting technology will be added to large collaborative spaces where these have not previously been available.
In general, the functions of the spaces will remain similar to those of other Metropolia facilities. The devices will switch on and off automatically when a computer is connected to the room’s equipment via HDMI cable.
