How do you install free Office (for Metropolia students and staff) on an iPad?
- Office apps are installed from Apple's AppStore (search for e.g. "Microsoft Corporation") and in logging in give your username in this form: username@metropolia.fi
Who can use the Office 365 service?
- The package is available to Metropolia students and staff. Documents can also be shared to external users.

Why is it forbidden to store students' identifying information and course assessments in Google and Microsoft clouds? Is there a cloud service where an instructor can post course assessments?
- It is forbidden to store a person's identifying information and a student's course assessments and grades and an employee's job performance assessments in a cloud service. In other words, it is forbidden to store a persons name or identification code together with course assessments. Since cloud service providers do not adhere to the regulation, the ban is the only way to put the strict EU information security regulation into effect. The conception that students' course assessments cannot be stored in cloud services is based on jurists' interpretation of the regulation. Currently the only alternative storage are Tuubi and Metropolia network drives.
What happens when my right to study at Metropolia ends or when I graduate?
- Your Metropolia user account is locked 14 days after graduation. The cloud user account is locked the same day the Metropolia user account is locked. The Office package (Office Pro Plus package) will work in limited functionality mode when the cloud account it locked. Limited functionality mode allows reading documents with Office but editing is not possible. You can continue using Office in full mode by purchasing a consumer version or a commercial one. You must make backup copies of your Office 365 OneDrive files before graduation or the end of your right to study at Metropolia. When your Office 365 account is locked, you will no longer have access to your files and they are deleted.
Where are the files saved to the Pages service stored, when the files are created using a Metropolia username?
- They are stored in the website in Office 365 service. There are or there may be your own document libraries.
Where are the files saved to OneDrive stored, when the files are created using a Metropolia username?
- They are stored in your personal Office 365 OneDrive.
Where are the file saved to OneDrive stored, when the files are created using a personal account?
- They are stored in your personal OneDrive. When you use Microsoft cloud apps in work tasks, you must use your Metropolia username.
Other matters
How do I change the default language in Office 365 apps?
- Logon at https://office.com
- Choose "My Office Profile""
- Choose "Update profile"
- Choose "here" at "How can I change language and regional settings?"
- Click "..." and choose "Language and region"
- Add your preferred language and click "add" button
- Choose "Save all and close" button
It will take some time before new language is effective in Office365 online applications.
