Authenticate yourself before your studies begin so that you can access your user credentials before the orientation days. However, you can only authenticate after you have accepted your study place and you have been registered in Metropolia's student systems. The right to study begins on 1st of August / 1st of January, so you can activate your user ID/account as soon as your study right has started.

Instructions for identification without Suomi.fi-authentication

If you don't have the ability to identify yourself via Suomi.fi, in order to receive your Metropolia user credentials, you need to confirm your identity via Candour identification service, using the Candour ID mobile application.

The link to log in to the identification service can be found at the end of these instructions. Log in using the email address and phone number you used when applying to Metropolia (Studyinfo, Open UAS enrolment system, etc.). If you did not provide a phone number when applying, leave the phone number field blank. Please enter the information in the exact same format you used when applying (country code for phone number, etc.)

You need the following for the identification:

• A valid identity document that can be one of the following:
  • Passport (with or without an ICAO chip)
  • Finnish identity card with an ICAO chip
  • Foreign identity card with an ICAO chip

    Please make sure the identity document you are using is one of the above, and is not expired.

• A mobile device with an NFC reader (if using identification with an ICAO chip), a functional camera, and access to App store or Play store to download the Candour ID app
• The latest version the Candour ID identification app.

Note:
You must use your original physical identification document for the identification in the Candour ID application; a photo or copy of your identification document is not acceptable.
You must be recognizable from the photo on your passport or identity card. Note this especially if it has been a long time since the passport or identity card was issued.

Before starting the identification, download the Candour ID application to your mobile phone. If you already have the application installed, make sure it is updated to the latest version. During the identification process, follow the instructions provided by the Candour ID application. Please note that the identification process varies slightly depending on your phone type and the identification document you are using.

Checking the Candour ID application version
If you already have the Candour ID application installed, when starting the identification process, find the app on Play Store or App Store (or visit https://portal.candour.fi/mobileRedirect) on your mobile device. Check if any updates are available for the app.

If you are using an Android phone, you can also check the app version by following these steps: open the Candour ID application, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the app, select "About," and you will find the version number at the bottom of the page.

You have to perform the following steps in the Candour ID application during the identification: 

• Take a picture of your passport/identity card. You must use your original physical identification document for the identification in the Candour ID application; a photo or copy of your identification document is not acceptable
• Read the information of your passport/identity card  
  • If you are using a passport or identity card with an ICAO chip: Read the information from the chip of your passport/identity card according to the instructions provided by the application
  • If you don’t have a passport with an ICAO chip: You can proceed with optical verification (without chip reading) according to the instructions provided by the application
• If reading the chip of your passport or identity card is not successful: You can proceed with optical verification (without chip reading) according to the instructions provided by the application
• Take a selfie  

The application verifies that:

• the passport/identity card is valid  
• the person in the selfie matches the facial image on the passport/identity card 

The Candour ID  app informs you whether the identification has been successful or not. Make sure to return to the browser and wait patiently until you are redirected to the identification service info page. 

You have three attempts for the identification verification. If you encounter issues during the identification, the Candour ID application will provide additional instructions as you proceed. Use all three attempts. If you do not succeed within these three attempts, you will be redirected back to the identification service where you will find instructions on how to proceed.

After you have successfully completed the identification process, you will receive your Metropolia user credentials and instructions how to activate them via email within a week.
