Google Docs on Googlen kehittämä sovellus, jossa voi luoda ja jakaa tekstinkäsittelytiedostoja. Palvelu on ilmainen mutta sen monipuolinen käyttö vaatii rekisteröinnin eli oman Google Account -tunnuksen luomisen. Docs on osa Googlen laajempaa palvelupakettia Drivea, joka taas liittyy muun muassa oppilaitoksille suunnattuun Google Apps for Education -sovelluspakettiin.
Tekstitiedostojen luominen ja muokkaaminen on hyvin samanlaista kuin Microsoftin Wordilla tai Open Officen Writerilla. Erityisen käyttökelpoinen ominaisuus on automaattitallennus, joka tallentaa tietyin väliajoin työn alla olevaa dokumenttia.
Oleellinen piirre Google Docissa on sen yhteisöllinen ulottuvuus: palvelussa voi jakaa dokumenttejaan toisille joko liittämällä toinen henkilö dokumenttiin tai jakamalle tälle dokumentin sähköpostiosoite. Ryhmässä työskentely on helppoa, koska järjestelmässä voi useampi käyttäjä muokata dokumenttia samanaikaisesti. Dokumentin sisällöstä voi myös vaihtaa ajatuksia muiden kirjoittajien kanssa Kommentit-kentässä.
Dokumentin eri versioita on mahdollista selata. Valmiin tiedoston voi ladata itselleen tai vaikka julkaista blogissa tai Google Appsin avulla.
Google Docsin kaltaisiin muihin palveluihin kuuluu muun muassa Microsoft Sharepoint Online.

Google Docs is an application developed by Google. Documents can be created and shared in Google Docs. The application is free but to use all of its features, registration and a Google Account is needed. Docs is part of Google's larger service package Drive which in turn is part of Google Apps for Education which is aimed at academic institutions.
Creating and editing documents is done in much the same way as with Microsoft Word or Open Office Writer. One especially useful feature is automatic saving which save at certain intervals the changes made to the document being edited.
An essential feature of Google Docs is its collective nature: users can share their documents either by adding people to the document or by sending others the document web address. Collective editing is easy as several users can read and edit a document at the same time. Real-time collaboration is also supported by real-time commenting.
Different versions of a document can be opened. A document can be downloaded and published in a blog or with Google Apps etc.
Other Google Docs type of services include Microsoft Sharepoint Online.
