An external user's account is an account created for a user who participates in a Metropolia project or , enrolls in a class at Metropolia, or for some other reason uses Metropolia workstations (e.g. in auditoria) but is not a Metropolia staff member. Usually such accounts give access to Wiki or Moodle and they are created for projects run in cooperation with other organizations. With an external user's account logging to a Metropolia workstation is possible.

An external user's account differs from partner user account accounts only in that an external user's account gives access to fewer services requiring Metropolia authentication and the user does not have a Metropolia e-mail address in the Metropolia e-mail system. An external service provider – e.g. employer – e-mail address is included in an external user’s personal information. Usually An external user accounts are needed to get access to Wiki or Moodle and are given to projects that are run together with other organizations. With an external user account logging to a Metropolia workstation is possible.

's account cannot be created without an external e-mail address because all accounts receive e-mail from Metropolia systems. If a person does not have an e-mail address, the Metropolia staff member requesting the external user's account must urge the person to get an e-mail address e.g. from a provider that offers free e-mail addresses.

External user's account acquisition process

1. The process owner (or the Metropolia contact person) makes a service request for an external user account to Helpdesk.

  1. The name of the contact person. Since the contact person varies from case to case we cannot name anyone but in general the contact person is the person who gives the user account.
  2. The contact person collects the necessary information and submits it to Metropolia Helpdesk.
  3. Necessary information: first name, last name, e-mail address, activity for which the user account is needed (e.g. name of the project or class), validity period.
  4. Metropolia IT Services gives the account paper to the contact person who in turn gives the paper to the user who must provide a valid ID.
