New laptops have a USB-C connector. You can connect a new laptop to the connector without an adaptoradapter. New laptops are also charged when connected to a docking station.

Old laptops are connected to a USB port using an adapter that is attached to the cable. The laptop needs its own adpator adapter for charging.
