Name, course code and teaching period: DC circuit analysis (TA00AB71), 1/2011

Teacher: Vesa Linja-aho

Degree programme: Automotive and transport engineering

Course structure: 2+3 hours/week, one period.

Course contents in short: Basics of direct current circuits: Kirchhoff's laws, Ohm's law, circuit transformations, nodal voltage analysis, superposition principle and controlled sources.

## Syllabus

### Course Overview

The course covers the basic principles of electricity and methods for analyzing electric circuits

### Contents

• Kirchhoff's laws, Ohm's law, electric power
• Voltage and current sources
• Series and parallel circuits
• Nodal voltage analysis
• Thévenin and Norton equivalent circuits
• Superposition method
• Controlled sources

### Prerequisites

No mandatory prerequisites. Basic algebra, such as manipulation of expressions and solving sets of equations, should be mastered before attending the course.

### Textbook

Nilsson, Riedel: Electric Circuits. 9th Edition. Pearson 2011.

The course is graded with final exam. You can gain bonus to final exam by solving the exercise problems. If you finish correctly over 50 % of the exercises, you can skip one problem in the final exam. If you finish correctly over 80 % of the exercises, you can skip two problems in the final exam.
