Google Notebook LM
Notebook LM is a generative AI application developed by Google that's used as a tool for research, teaching, studying, and, more broadly, information management.
Users upload their own materials—such as lecture outlines or notes—to Notebook LM. This is a crucial difference from many other generative AI applications, which create content from sources other than the user's own.
Once the material is uploaded to Notebook LM, you can ask it to process the content and create various compilations, such as:
- A n audio conversation based on the material in a selected language
- A timeline of significant events related to the material
- An alphabetical list of people or concepts mentioned in the material
- A summary
- An FAQ (Answers to Frequently Asked Questions)
- Tips for exam questions
Special attention should be paid to data privacy and security when using Notebook LM. You should only upload material to the application for which you own the copyrights or have permission to use. Critical organizational data should not be uploaded to Notebook LM.
Notebook LM can "hallucinate" or invent facts—especially if you upload multiple sources to the application. However, it makes relatively fewer errors than AI applications that create content from sources other than the user's own. It's a good practice to manually check all of Notebook LM's output before publishing.
